Happy Martin Luther King Day: Holding a Jewel of meditation looking into one’s own mind, Buddha statue in the lotus mudra, snow, Broadview, Seattle, Washington, USA, Saha Planet Earth, “Tolerable” (Sanskrit Saha, “Tolerable” as in “barely tolerable”)

On Dr. Martin Luther King memorial day, it is worth noting that Lord Buddha advocated human equality more than 2500 years ago, dismissing and refusing to recognize social structures which hold individuals down. He accepted all students regardless of caste or gender or other differences.

Buddha is quoted as saying "Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule."

As human beings It must be difficult to change.

500 years later Lord Jesus Christ put it this way "As I have loved you, so you must love one another."

By being simply honest with ourselves, open hearted, and willing to change as individuals we can look at our own prejudice and remove what ever they are, simply by watching our own minds. Setting ourselves on dismissing those thoughts and deeds as incorrect that do not align with the advice great beings who have come before us have given, going back in history beyond human memory.

There must be something even more to loving each other that we can not even yet imagine. Otherwise how could love and compassion be such a radical idea thousands of years after these great ideas have been recommended and even insisted upon by the foremost to ever live?

It is said:
A Brahman saw the Buddha meditating by the River. He engaged the Buddha in conversation.

"What caste are you? Asked the Brahman.

"Caste is irrelevant." Said the Buddha.

"How so," said the Brahman, "surely you would agree that Brahman and royalty are of considerable worth whereas peasants and commoners are not?"

"Caste and riches matter not," replied the Buddha, "it is one’s conduct that matters."

"How so," said the Brahman.

"In that fire comes from any type of wood so can a wise person come from any caste. It is through the knowing of truth that one becomes noble not through caste. The noble one is the one that doesn’t cling to unworthy attachments. The noble one realizes the true way that things are, he no longer thinks of himself as a self and thus has gained clarity."

"You are truly wise," said the Brahman.

Ying and Yang of the mind (better viewed large)
Minds
She has mental desease and wanders the streets, talking to the sky almost every day. She posed in front of the window, just time for me to catch my camera.
The shadows draws a kind of ying and yang figure and she lives on its edge. Her shadow reminds us that even in a clear state of mind, her disease is still lurking.
She was bathing in the sunset light while talking to the sky when I shot the picture. Who is she talking to? Who is she looking up to?
(picture is exceptionaly uploaded at 1600* 980: her facial expression is impressive to look at). Full size : here
Please comment on the framing and composition: i really suffered to produce this cropped photo. Any comments much appreciated.
Technically, a duotone cropped picture with her shadow superposed from another picture.
Thanx

501st Military Intelligence Brigade brings the fighting spirit of the “Red Dragons” to Humphreys

On Sept. 19 the athleticism, winning spirit, and teamwork of the 501st Military Intelligence Brigade, “Red Dragons”, were put to the test as they held their annual Organizational Day. The Soldiers of the 501st Military Intelligence Brigade are stationed all over the Korean Peninsula from the “Z to the Sea”, but gathered together at Zoeckler Station to see who among the “Red Dragons” were champions. Col. Raul Escribano kicked off the day by energizing the troops and their families by expressing unit cohesion, camaraderie, and esprit de corps. In total, over 1,000 “Red Dragon” Soldiers, KATUSAs, Unit 1998th (ROK Army), and their families were brought together for the 2009 501st Military Intelligence Brigade Organizational Day.

The four 501st MI BDE unit teams consisted of the HHC, 501st MI BDE and 524th MI BN pairing together, and the 527th, 524th, and 3rd Military Intelligence Battalions respectively. Each team contributed their top contender(s) to participate in the seven sport events: 5K run, soccer, basketball, flag football, beach volleyball, 4X300 relay, and tug-of-war.
The Families of the 501st MI BDE enjoyed a fun filled day of face painting, egg toss and the water balloon toss. All the children left with painted faces, a little wet and sticky from the balloon and egg toss, but smiling from ear to ear as they clutched their candy filled goody bag.

The day concluded with closing remarks from Col. Raul Escribano and Command Sgt. Maj. John Plaster and the trophies and streamers presentation to those teams placing 1st and 2nd for each event. The HHC, 501st MI BDE and 524th MI BN combined Team earned the bragging rights as the overall champions of the 2009 “Red Dragon” Organization Day. 532nd MI BN can in 2nd Place and 3rd Place was presented to the 527th MI BN.

The 501st Military Intelligence Brigade conducts 24/7 operations in support of warfighters. It’s not often that this Brigade that is spread all over the Korean Peninsula has an opportunity to set away from the work place and energize themselves with the winning spirit of the “Red Dragons”!

Tony Cragg – Bent of Mind
Minds
Bent of Mind (2005) by artist Tony Cragg is part of a solo exhibition in Museum Beelden aan Zee, The Hague. It’s an intriguing work of art with a biomorphic profile that changes continually as the onlooker moves around it and tries to make sense of the shifting and distorted forms. Moving around the sculpture (pieces of) human faces reveal themselves and evaporate again. The polished wooden surface heightens the striking presence of the fluid form as the interplay of light creates new emphasis on different patterns, textures and curves.

In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, illithids (commonly known as mind flayers) are monstrous humanoid aberrations with psionic powers. In a typical Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting, they live in the moist caverns and cities of the enormous Underdark. Illithids believe themselves to be the dominant species of the multiverse and use other intelligent creatures as thralls, slaves, and chattel.
